H. N. WHITE KINGS
H. N. White King valve springs were made
of phosphorus bronze. Many Vintage
H. N. White King cornets and trumpets
are found to have springs constructed of
beryllium copper, and stainless steel. The
spring diameters and lengths vary
depending on the model and length of the
valve piston. Spring lengths vary from
1 1/2" to 1 5/8". The Eb cornet has a
spring length of 1 1/4". The spring
diameters vary depending on if it is an
inner barrel spring or outer barrel spring.

On June 9, 1948, Fred N. Meyers, Design
Engineer and assignor for the H. N. White
company, filed an application with the
United States Patent office for a
revolutionary new valve piston design.
The design was patented on
October 7, 1952 and received patent
number 2,612,811. This new valve piston
rendered superior valve performance and
longevity. This design can be found on all
1960's models (Symphony Super 20,
Silver Flair, Silversonic, Tempo, and Liberty).

VALVE PISTONS
1920 H. N. WHITE KING "Crystal Silver" valves.  Henderson White developed a special metal called Crystal Silver with
flint like hardness designed to give long wear and freedom from dust scores. Specially designed to resist rust and
pitting. The valves were drawn from a small disk of Crystal Silver through a series of highly technical operations, each
of which added hardness and texture to the metal. The shell and head are one piece. The space of the port holes was so
arranged as to give the most clear and free air passage and the linings do not interfere with one another. The head was
threaded to receive the spring barrel and stronger than if they were soldered in. The spring barrels were made of hard
spring brass, perfectly cut for the spring seat and threaded to the shell pump. The springs were made of phosphorus
bronze wire, barrel shaped and recessed into a cup socket at each end to reduce friction. The valve cases were made of
a special anti friction alloy metal especially designed to work in conjunction with the Crystal Silver valve. The valve
cases were also designed not to score and retain their smoothness indefinitely. The metal was adapted for water or
saliva lubrication. The valve cases were recessed at the top and bottom so that corrosion could not collect causing the
valves to stick. The valve stroke was shortened by a drop of 17/32 on an inch. All parts were hand ground and
assembled.
